Diploma Program - 58 Quarter Credit Hours

Indianapolis-Northwest Campus Only.

This program is designed to provide students with the practical and hands-on training needed to be successful in the field of dental assisting. The program contains lecture courses designed to provide students with the practical knowledge needed to understand the basis of the dental assisting profession. Classes are designed to provide students with hands-on laboratory practice in order to build their confidence prior to being assigned to their externships. The program includes training on sterilization of instruments, creation and maintenance of patient records, preliminary examination procedures, appointment setting, and how to assist during general and post-operative oral healthcare. The program also provides students with training in soft skills, such as professionalism and patient contact, which are vital to be successful in the dental assisting field. Upon completion of the program, students receive a diploma and can seek entry-level positions as a dental assistant.

Program Goals


  1. To provide students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required to pursue an entry-level position as a Dental Assistant;
  2. To prepare students to function effectively as members of the dental team and to perform general and specialty chairside procedures upon the successful completion of the program;
  3. To build relationships with local dentists and community members to provide our students with support and outside resources;
  4. To ensure that faculty are up-to-date on current trends in dentistry, continuing education and teaching methodology.
