Associate of Applied Science Degree Program - 90 Quarter Credit Hours

This program provides students with the knowledge and hands-on experience to become multi-skilled health professionals proficient in both administrative and clinical duties contained in the Medical Assisting Diploma program, as well as leadership skills for career advancement. These duties include assisting physicians in minor surgery, performing laboratory tests, assessing vital signs, administering medication, and performing ECGs and other procedures, in addition to performing therapeutic modalities prescribed by physicians. Medical Assistants are employed in ambulatory health care settings, such as physician’s offices, medical clinics, and urgent care facilities.

Program Objectives

Upon graduation, students will be able to:

  1. Master administrative and clinical procedures performed in an ambulatory (out-patient) care setting.
  2. Ascertain patient needs and respond by providing appropriate care per physicians’ orders.
  3. Exhibit compliance to scope of legal and regulatory boundaries.
  4. Conduct self in ethical and professional manner while functioning as an integral member of the health care team.
  5. Prepare to take professional credentialing exam and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through professional development to ensure up-to-date knowledge.

Applicants to this program must complete the Medical Assisting Diploma program first.

Students are required to complete CD 1000  - Career Development to meet the graduation requirements of the program.

Program Length: The Medical Assisting-AAS program is 84 weeks in length and 1,187 clock hours.

Program Delivery: The Medical Assisting-AAS program is offered in residential or a combination of residential and distance learning instructional delivery formats.
