Associate of Applied Science Degree Program - 90 Quarter Credit Hours

Not seeking to enroll students.

The Health Information Technology program is designed to provide the student with the academic, professional, and technical skills to collect, maintain, and protect digital data and traditional medical records essential for quality patient care. The student will be prepared to verify completeness and accuracy of medical information and electronic health records used for coding, reimbursement and quality improvement. The program includes professional practice experience in health information technology application to prepare students for entry-level positions in hospitals, insurance companies, clinical practice facilities, registries and other healthcare settings.

Program Objectives


Upon graduation, a Student will:

  1. Collect, maintain, and aggregate demographics and healthcare data using software applications for reporting and analyzing quality of patient care.
  2. Abstract data and ensure documentation is complete and accurate to support coding assignments for optimal reimbursement.
  3. Conduct self in ethical and professional manner while functioning as an integral member of the health care team.
  4. Comply with standards, rules and regulations of healthcare information management.
  5. Prepare to take professional credentialing exam and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through professional development.

OH/NC Health Information Technology students residing in Ohio and North Carolina are required to take HUM 1500  Introduction to Humanities to fulfill state-specific general education requirements.
Program Length: The Health Information Technology-AAS program is 96 weeks in length and 1,120 clock hours.

Program Delivery: The Health Information Technology-AAS program is offered in residential, distance learning, or a combination of both types of instructional delivery formats.
