Associate of Applied Science Degree Program - 90 Quarter Credit Hours

Anderson, Columbus-IN, Columbus-OH, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis-Downtown, Lafayette, and Terre Haute Campuses Only. This program is also offered through Distance Education.

This program seeks to provide students with an extensive business background, focusing on multifunctional principles of business. The program includes courses in the accounting, business, finance, human resources, management, marketing and entrepreneurship specialty areas. Students may elect to concentrate their professional electives in one of five functional areas or remain generalized. Graduates of the program are prepared to begin careers as manager trainees or project assistants in any number of industries.

Program Objectives


Upon graduation, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of business terminology.
  2. Identify and contrast business roles in a global context.
  3. Evaluate the implication of ethical problem solving in business situations.
  4. Evaluate the importance of business data to organizational decisions.
  5. Produce effective business communication for various audiences.


Students enrolled in Business Associate of Science Degree program who wish to focus on a specific area of study may choose to complete a concentration in that area of study by successfully completing the designated courses listed below to satisfy the professional elective requirements of this program. A student who completes the courses required for a concentration will be awarded one of the following credentials:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Business with a Concentration in Finance.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Business with a Concentration in Human Resources.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Business with a Concentration in Marketing.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Business with a Concentration in Project Management.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Business with a Concentration in Office Technology.

Students are not required to complete a concentration. Students who choose not to complete a concentration will earn an Associate of Applied Science in Business degree.

I Students who reside more than 60 miles from a campus offering this program of study must complete the capstone course in place of the Internship. Students enrolled through the Fort Wayne campus must complete the capstone course in place of the Internship. Please refer to the Experiential Learning  section of this catalog for additional information.
PE Professional electives for the Business Associate of Applied Science must be selected from courses listed below. Students may be required to take elective courses online.
Program Length: The Business-AAS program is 84 weeks in length and 1,059 or 1,131 clock hours.

Program Delivery: The Business-AAS program is offered in residential, distance learning, or a combination of both types of instructional delivery formats.

Business Concentrations and Electives


Students are required to complete 12 elective credits (three courses) to fulfill the professional elective requirements. Students wishing to complete a concentration must complete three elective courses from a single set listed below in addition to the required program courses. Each course is four credit hours. Students are not required to complete a concentration. Students may be required to take these courses online.
