Associate of Applied Science Degree Program - 90 Quarter Credit Hours

Not seeking to enroll students.

This program provides students with a broad spectrum of coursework in various aspects of the criminal justice system. The program is designed to prepare Students for a variety of careers in the criminal justice field in both the public and private sectors. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates can pursue entry-level positions with local or state law-enforcement agencies and correctional organizations. This also includes private sector and court service positions. Additional training may be required.

Program Goals


Graduates will:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the major concepts associated with the criminal justice system.
  2. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing applying critical thinking skills.
  3. Demonstrate the importance of ethics to the field of criminal justice.
  4. Be prepared to work in entry-level positions with local or state law-enforcement agencies and correctional organizations including private sector and court service positions.


Students may, but are not required to, concentrate in the following areas through the successful completion of designated professional elective courses to be awarded the following credentials. Students who choose not to complete a concentration will earn an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice degree.

  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Corrections.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Court Services.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Law Enforcement.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Private Sector Services.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Youth Services.

PE Professional electives for the Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science must be selected from courses listed below. Alternative professional electives must be approved by the dean or program chair. Students may be required to take elective courses online.
Program Length: The Criminal Justice-AAS program is 96 weeks in length and 1,051 clock hours.

Program Delivery: The Criminal Justice-AAS program is offered in residential, distance learning, or a combination of both types of instructional delivery formats.

Criminal Justice Concentrations and Electives


Students must complete three courses from a single set to supplement related required courses to complete a concentration. Each course is four credit hours. Students are not required to complete a concentration. Students may be required to take these courses online.
